Artist Linda Zīvere has graduated from the Textile Art Department of Riga Secondary School of Applied Arts (1987) and the Master Workshop of Monumental Painting at the Art Academy of Latvia (1996), however, she studied at the Textile Art Department for the first 4 years at the Academy. Her teachers were professors Rūdolfs Heimrāts, Indulis Zariņš and Aleksejs Naumovs.
“Linda Zīvere has been working tirelessly for many years in the field of abstract painting. She does not tend to entertain viewers of her work with attractive compositions, but offers paintings imbued with seriousness and silence, which tend to reward a sensitive viewer with an experience of tenderness and presence”, says curator Māris Upzars. Currently, Linda Zīvere lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, but she sees her and her children’s future in Latvia.
In her works, the artist deals with issues of man’s inner world and their connection with the order of the Universe. Māris Upzars tends to compare the impression created by Linda Zīvere’s works with the feeling of continuous prayer created by medieval chants. However, in her large-format paintings, there can also be a great inner tension and anxiety, which has more than once taken over even the entire space of a large exhibition: the painted forms can resemble the splashes or eruptions of huge brushes, but maybe also a landing of mystical events in the sky or the earth (also patterns or signs) at this place or time.
